Serving Southern Utah For 58 Years
In May of 1950, Tom McArthur Sr. started a little jewelry shop at 41 N. Main.
Having limited financial backing, he worked long hours, arriving at his shop in the wee hours of the morning. Once there, he worked on doing the daily repairs then home for breakfast at 7 a.m. then back to work to open the store at 9 a.m.
Just being a jeweler wasn't enough to support the family, so Tom also repaired watches and clocks and sold radios and television sets to supplement income. He also rented the upstairs apartment above the store to school kids. That's the way it was done .... back then.
Tom Jr. arrived full time on the scene in 1972 to help dad out for the summer. He likes to tell that the summer must not be over because he is still there. Tom and Allison, his wife became the new owners of the McArthur Jewelers store in 1983 when Tom Sr. and Fae retired from active management. The "kids" have been following the example of the parents in offering quality products at excellent prices and giving exceptional customer service.
"We are proud of the traditions that have been in place for two generations, and look forward to continued growth and change that progress gives." Says Tom Jr., "We are not the same company that began so long ago, and we are constantly changing and improving."
Alexandrite
Alexandrite is a gem variety of the mineral chrysoberyl discovered in 1830 in Czarist Russia. Since the old Russian imperial colors are red and green, it was named after Czar Alexander II on the occasion of his coming of age.
Ruby
It was believed wearing a fine red ruby bestowed good fortune on its owner - although the owner must have already had good fortune enough to possess such a rare and beautiful gemstone! Many people associate its brilliant crimson colors with passion and love, making Ruby an ideal choice for an engagement ring.
Topaz
The Egyptians said that topaz was colored with the golden glow of the sun god. Legend has it that topaz dispels all enchantment and helps to improve eyesight. The ancient Greeks believed that it had the power to increase strength and make its wearer invisible in times of emergency
